Course summary

What this course is about

UCAS code: W295

Here's what University of Hull says about its Games Design and Creative Writing course.

Open up a world of opportunity in one of the UK's fastest developing creative industries with this hands-on degree at the University of Hull.

This new course is one of only a handful in the country to combine the technological skills of game design with the ability to write compelling stories and narratives – helping you to create even better games.

You'll be taught by BAFTA-winning experts and published authors – plus get to use industry-standard facilities and software – and study topics such as Narrative Design, Game Scripting, and Genre Fiction alongside more traditional modules on game design and development.

Why study at Hull?

  • Cutting edge tech: Create VR, AR or mixed reality projects in our high-tech design labs, including a virtual reality lounge with Virtuix Omni VR treadmill.

  • Industry links for career success: Spend a year in industry to hone your skills and contacts, and present your final year project to employers in Game Republic’s annual Student Showcase.

  • Study under experts who’ve worked on BAFTA-winning games and titles for names like Disney and Lucasfilm.

Where could this take me?

You'll graduate with all the technological and writing skills needed to thrive in the fast-paced world of game design.

Our curriculum has been developed in collaboration with games employers and is taught by industry experts – so you know it's up-to-date – while the communication and problem-solving skills you'll learn could also propel you into wider roles in the creative industries.

Previous graduates on our game design courses have worked on a range of well-known games in studios across the UK in roles including VFX artist, game designer, environment and texture artists, and character designers.
