A level

A*,A,A

Grades A*AA with an A* in Mathematics A-level. Typical Contextual Offer: We make contextual data offers to students who are eligible. This is likely to be A* (Maths) AB (if Further Maths is taken a grade A would be required). Further Maths is preferred but not essential.

AS level results are not considered as part of the standard admissions process at The University of Manchester.

Access to HE Diploma

D:45

We require a QAA-recognised Access to HE Diploma (a minimum of 60 credits overall with at least 45 at Level 3). The 45 credits at Level 3 to be at Distinction (to include seven specific Maths units). Applications are considered on an individual basis. For further information on the specific units required please contact the School of Mathematics.

We consider applicants offering Pre-U Principal Subjects, or a mix of Pre-U and A Level subjects, provided a minimum of three distinct subjects overall is taken. A typical offer would be D2 (Mathematics) and D3 in two additional subjects.

The University recognises the benefits of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the opportunities it provides for applicants to develop independent study and research skills. Although the Extended Project will not be included in the conditions of your offer, we strongly encourage you to provide information about the EPQ in your personal statement and at interview. We may also choose to take your performance in the EPQ into account should places be available in August for applicants who narrowly miss the entry grades for their chosen course.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

Applicants must demonstrate a broad general education including acceptable levels of Literacy and Numeracy, equivalent to at least Grade C/4 in GCSE/iGCSE English Language and Mathematics. GCSE/iGCSE English Literature will not be accepted in lieu of GCSE/iGCSE English Language. Please note that if you hold English as a second language iGCSE qualification, we may also require you to offer one of our acceptable equivalent English Language qualifications or achieve a higher grade in your iGCSE than the one stated above. International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

37

37 points overall with 19 points at Higher Level with 7 in Maths and 6 & 6 in two further Higher Level subjects. We will only accept Higher Level Maths Analysis and Approaches.

OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma

DD

We consider the Cambridge Technical Diploma for entry with grades DD in combination with a grade A* in A level Mathematics.

OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate

D

We consider the Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate for entry with grade D plus a grade A* in A level Mathematics and another A level (not General Studies or Critical Thinking) at grade A.

This joint-honours degree programme is aimed at mathematics students with a particular interest in financial systems. It includes the same course units in financial mathematics as Mathematics with Financial Mathematics (UCAS code G1NH), but has a greater component of Accounting and Finance. This provides a foundation in finance including the study of international financial markets and multinational corporate finance. Topics presently covered include Financial Reporting and Investment Analysis. You study Mathematics and Finance in the ratio 3:1. A core of basic mathematics provides you with the fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills, and the basis for more advanced work later on. The core material is covered in the first three semesters, up to the mid-point of your second year. You develop your capacity to learn and apply mathematical ideas, to understand the significance and power of mathematics, and to acquire a thorough knowledge and understanding of those mathematical topics that any employer would expect of a mathematics graduate. After your first three semesters, you chose your lecture courses from a widening range of options in order that you can pursue whichever areas of mathematics most interest you. You can also choose to do a final year project on a mathematical topic supervised by a member of staff.

Want to feel needed? This is one of the most flexible degrees of all and with so much of modern work being based on data, there are options everywhere for maths graduates. With all that training in handling figures, it's hardly surprising that a lot of maths graduates go into well-paid jobs in the IT or finance industries, and last year, a maths graduate in London could expect a very respectable average starting salary of £27k. And we're always short of teachers in maths, so that is an excellent option for anyone wanting to help the next generation. And if you want a research job, you'll want a doctorate — and a really good maths doctorate will get you all sorts of interest from academia and finance — and might secure some of the highest salaries going for new leavers from university.

Over half of finance graduates go into the finance industry, with accountancy and financial advice roles particularly popular. It's also quite common for finance graduates to go into jobs which require you to take more training and gain professional qualifications — finance graduates who take further study are more likely to be studying accountancy than finance.
