This four year MEng Artificial Intelligence degree builds on the three year BEng and will give you new skills in numerical software development, enabling you to apply knowledge and mathematical principles in the design and implementation of modern artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science systems, providing the opportunity to work in a wide range of industries from transport to healthcare and communications to enterainment. Beyond modules specialising in core skills required for all AI, machine learning (ML) and data scientists and engineers, the programme offers a broad range of optional modules that derive from world-leading research carried out by our academic staff in areas such as Deep Learning, Computer Vision and Robotics.
The demand for highly numerate and skilled scientists and engineers in the filed of AI is already huge and continues to grow. Southampton Computer Science graduates are also in high demand as we have a world-leading reputation for creative solutions based on cutting-edge knowledge and state-of-the-art technical skills. This four-year programme will enable you to pursue a career in a wide range of industries that can benefit from AI. It has been designed to maximise student choice by allowing you to tailor the degree structure to suit your own interests. During the first two years you will undertake a series of core modules, for example Algorithms and analysis; High- and Low-level Programming, Mathematics and Systematic design. In your third year, you will be taking an advanced Machine Learning module; this module covers content that would traditionally be seen at a Master's level in a CS degree. It follows on from two foundational machine learning modules in year two, which are more representative of the 3rd year content in a CS degree. In your third year you can also choose from a wide range of optional modules that reflect a specialist area of AI. During the fourth year you will take part in a group design project, working with a real industry customer or solving challenging problems through the imaginative application of technology. This programme is also available with a year in industry.
A range of assessment methods are used on this programme to enable students to demonstrate their achievement of the intended learning outcomes. These include written examinations and assessments, in-class tests, design exercises, programming exercises, oral presentations, assessed laboratories and group work exercises.

The Student union is very active with campaigns, events and feedback. Thereu2019s lots of club however they introduced a sports pass so you have to pay to be a member and play sports. This has discouraged many and resulted in less student participation in societies.

I donu2019t stay in Southampton much as I donu2019t think there is a lot to do and feel it lacks community.

They offer a commuter fund which was very helpful for me as their parking permits are expensive, which should be lowered as parking is very hard to find.

There is lots of academic and well-being support that is frequently advertised and I attended the academic skills clinic, which was helpful. I donu2019t know about other services as I donu2019t use them.

Thereu2019s only two main study areas that are usually very busy, they could increase the study rooms available and make it niceee atmosphere, compared to other universities. I donu2019t know about other facilities, like accommodation.

My timetable is good because I donu2019t have many contact hours, I personally like this as a commuter. The lectures are always really helpful even though they vary in style, and they fully take on board feedback. The tutorials are less helpful because it depends on your tutor- some can really help ...
