Cambridge Pre-U's can be used in combination with other qualifications such as A Levels to achieve the equivalent of the typical offer, where D3 can be used in lieu of A Level grade A or grade M2 can be used in lieu of grade B. We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Biological science can answer today’s key challenges at a molecular, cellular and whole organism level.

Your four-year integrated Biology masters will equip you with in-depth knowledge on species, commmunities, and entire ecosystems. You will leave with the skills needed for further study and for employment in a broad variety of professions including laboratory-based research, jobs in the conservation and environment sector, and the media.

We will offer you an opportunity for a year in employment placement, for those who want to gain experience in an industrial setting.

As well as gaining extensive experience from a variety of field trips in possible locations like the New Forest, Spain and Belize, you will also become a part of our diverse and passionate research community, spending your final-year embedded alongside one of our leading research groups.

You will complete extended projects in a specialised area of your choice and enjoy working alongside and being taught by leading academics in their research fields. They will support you in developing a knowledge of life at different levels - from molecules and cells, to whole communities and global ecosystems.

Year 1: Chemistry of Life (semester 1 only), Fundamentals of Biochemistry, Fundamentals of Cell Biology and Physiology, How to Think Like a Scientist, Origins of Biodiversity

Year 2: Evolution, Plant Development and Function, Quantitative Methods Biological and Environmental Science.

Year 3: Biodiversity and Conservation, Cancer Chromosome Biology, Evolution and Genetics, Global Challenges in Biology.

Year 4:
Current Research, Advanced Field Research Project, Cellular and Genetic Aspects of Animal Development.

The recession was tough on biology graduates, and although the jobs market has improved for them - a lot - it's still not back to where it was a few years ago. If you want a career in biology research — and a lot of biology students do - you'll need to take a doctorate, so give some thought as to where you might do it and how you might fund it (the government still funds doctorates for good students). A lot of graduates also take 1 year Masters courses to specialise in this wide and deep subject - most students take a standard biology course for their first degree and then specialise in subjects like ecology, conservation or marine biology later. Hospitals, universities, biotech firms, zoos and nature reserves and clinical and scientific testing are common industries of employment for biology graduates.
