If you are taking an EPQ in addition to 3 A levels, you will receive the following offer in addition to the standard A level offer: AAA including mathematics and physics, with a pass in the physics Practical (where it is separately endorsed) plus grade A in the EPQ. We are committed to ensuring that all applicants with the potential to succeed, regardless of their background, are encouraged to apply to study with us. The additional information gained through contextual data allows us to recognise an applicant's potential to succeed in the context of their background and experience. Applicants who are highlighted in this way will be made an offer which is lower than the typical offer for that programme. Applicants who have not studied the required subjects at A-level can apply for the Engineering/Physics/Mathematics Foundation Year.

Here's what University of Southampton says about its Mechanical Engineering course.
This three-year course covers the theoretical principles of mechanical engineering alongside practical design work. The first two years are the same across our Mechanical Engineering degrees and focus on the essential principles of mechanical engineering, as well as law and management, systems design, and modelling and computing, in order to take a product from initial concept to the marketplace.
Modules in your third year will allow you to extend your knowledge in areas that suit your own interests, from orthopaedic biomechanics to automobile systems. You will also carry out an individual project, bringing together the concepts and skills you have learned.
You will have access to extensive facilities, which include the largest wind tunnel in any UK university, a high-resolution 3D imaging centre, dedicated student design studios and workshops, and a materials and structures research facility in our new National Infrastructure Laboratory.
Our courses are fully accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and offer a route to chartered status.

How you will be assessed
Testing is conducted through a combination of unseen written examinations and assessed coursework in the form of problem-solving exercises, laboratory reports, design exercises, essays, and individual and group projects. Experimental, research and design skills are assessed through laboratory reports, coursework exercises and oral presentations.

The Student union is very active with campaigns, events and feedback. Thereu2019s lots of club however they introduced a sports pass so you have to pay to be a member and play sports. This has discouraged many and resulted in less student participation in societies.

I donu2019t stay in Southampton much as I donu2019t think there is a lot to do and feel it lacks community.

They offer a commuter fund which was very helpful for me as their parking permits are expensive, which should be lowered as parking is very hard to find.

There is lots of academic and well-being support that is frequently advertised and I attended the academic skills clinic, which was helpful. I donu2019t know about other services as I donu2019t use them.

Thereu2019s only two main study areas that are usually very busy, they could increase the study rooms available and make it niceee atmosphere, compared to other universities. I donu2019t know about other facilities, like accommodation.

My timetable is good because I donu2019t have many contact hours, I personally like this as a commuter. The lectures are always really helpful even though they vary in style, and they fully take on board feedback. The tutorials are less helpful because it depends on your tutor- some can really help ...
