About this course Become a nurse with MNurs Nursing (Adult and Child) at the University of Southampton, a course ranked 3rd in the UK and 13th in the world (QS World Rankings by Subject 2026), to change patients' lives and shape the future of healthcare.

On your four-year integrated master's degree you'll develop the skills you need to become a nurse and provide compassionate care that makes a difference to patients' lives through an extensive range of placements, through simulated practice in our specialist facilities, and through clinical skills teaching by real nurses who are also world-class educators and practitioners.

Student support You'll be supported from day one, both during your time studying on campus and during your placements, by your personal support network of academics: your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), a senior tutor, and by your fellow students via initiatives like the Schwartz Rounds designed to support health-care staff to deliver compassionate care by helping them to reflect on their work in groups of peers.

Further information You'll graduate from this course with the opportunity to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse (Adult) and Registered Nurse (Child).

The NHS Learning Support Fund may assist your journey to becoming a registered healthcare professional. If you're a UK applicant you could be eligible for £5,000 per academic year, depending on your programme of study.

How you will be assessed

Throughout your degree you'll be supported to achieve your best in assessments by our vibrant Health Sciences community, your Personal Academic Tutor, and your Practice Mentor.

Assessments on this programme range from coursework, written and practical exams to projects. Assessment takes place throughout the course to ensure that you are reaching the right levels of attainment. Your practical skills will be assessed whist you are on placement and recorded by your Practice Mentor.

The Student union is very active with campaigns, events and feedback. Thereu2019s lots of club however they introduced a sports pass so you have to pay to be a member and play sports. This has discouraged many and resulted in less student participation in societies.

I donu2019t stay in Southampton much as I donu2019t think there is a lot to do and feel it lacks community.

They offer a commuter fund which was very helpful for me as their parking permits are expensive, which should be lowered as parking is very hard to find.

There is lots of academic and well-being support that is frequently advertised and I attended the academic skills clinic, which was helpful. I donu2019t know about other services as I donu2019t use them.

Thereu2019s only two main study areas that are usually very busy, they could increase the study rooms available and make it niceee atmosphere, compared to other universities. I donu2019t know about other facilities, like accommodation.

My timetable is good because I donu2019t have many contact hours, I personally like this as a commuter. The lectures are always really helpful even though they vary in style, and they fully take on board feedback. The tutorials are less helpful because it depends on your tutor- some can really help ...
