**OVERVIEW**
UWS’s BSc (Hons) Occupational Safety & Health is professionally-accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to lead and manage health and safety in the workplace.

You’ll study a range of topics appropriate to modern approaches to occupational health and safety, including legal systems; safety management systems; risk assessment; risk reduction; risk control techniques; fostering a safe and healthy work culture in the workforce; environmental management; and health and wellbeing. 

**PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION**
This degree is accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) and you can become a student member during your studies.

On completion of this programme you will be eligible to apply for membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Grad IOSH). The IOSH membership grade awarded will be dependent on your qualifications and work experience.

Some graduates from this degree have continued their studies by undertaking a taught master's degree (MSc / MBA) in disciplines from Quality Management, Resource Management, Occupational Health.

Modules

In Year 1 you will develop the knowledge and skills that will underpin more advanced study later in your degree. Year 1 topics include biodiversity of life, foundations of life and investigation and communication.

In Year 2 you will complete modules in health and safety law, technology and risk management.

In Year 3 you will begin to specialise, with an emphasis on managing health and safety in the workplace. Environmental management is introduced and modules include case studies, managing health and safety and managing business risks.

In your final year of studies, specialist modules will deepen your understanding of health and wellbeing and housing, acoustics and health. You will also complete a supervised research dissertation in a subject area related to safety, health and environment.

Assessment methods

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and workshops.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in group work and independent learning to develop your transferable skills such as research, presentation, communication and working as part of a team.
