Here's what University of Worcester says about its Diagnostic Radiography with Foundation Year course.
Learn to use the latest imaging technology to safely diagnose injuries and illnesses and help patients get the treatment they need.
This four-year Diagnostic Radiography degree includes a foundation year. It’s an ideal alternative for those who don't meet the entry requirements for the three-year program but can demonstrate a commitment to healthcare and provide relevant life experience.
Your first year will build up your knowledge of human anatomy and compassionate patient-care skills. With a focus on key study skills and techniques, the integrated foundation year is designed to ease the transition of studying at degree-level, whether you’re joining us from school, college or employment.
You’ll study with students preparing for a range of healthcare courses, including paramedicine, physiotherapy, nursing and occupational therapy. This prepares you to collaborate with and work alongside other healthcare professionals, just as you will once you graduate.
By successfully completing the foundation year, you’ll be guaranteed to progress on to our three-year Diagnostic Radiography degree.
Diagnostic radiography is a science and technology-based discipline. In the final three-years of this course you’ll learn about medical imaging science, techniques and technology. You’ll be trained to use cutting edge technology to produce and process images of internal body structures like the bones, blood vessels and organs or provide real-time imaging to guide surgery.
Based on our new health and wellbeing campus, you’ll have access to our state-of-the-art facilities. This includes a specialist anatomy skills room where you can learn advanced anatomy using high-fidelity models and state-of-the-art digital simulations of life-sized bodies.
Placements
There are no placements during the foundation year.
Once you have progressed to Diagnostic Radiography BSc, you will spend 50% of your time on clinical placement, gaining experience within a local NHS integrated care system and a private setting.
We have strong partnerships with healthcare providers across the West Midlands, both within the NHS and the private sector. This collaboration not only enriches our course content but also ensures that you have comprehensive, hands-on experience through a variety of professional, healthcare placements. This puts you in an excellent position to apply for jobs when you graduate.
