Course summary

What this course is about

UCAS code: L2R4

Here's what University of York says about its International Relations and Spanish (with a year abroad) course.

In an increasingly interconnected world, understanding societies and cultures in their diversity is essential. Our programme equips students with the ability to engage, communicate, and interact effectively across linguistic and cultural boundaries, preparing them for international, transcultural, and multilingual professional environments.

At the core of our curriculum is the interdependence of languages, cultures, and international relations and global politics. Students will develop sophisticated plurilingual communication skills while critically analysing the political, social, and cultural dynamics that shape our world. Through research and evaluation, they will explore key issues such as global justice, human rights, international power shifts, and the challenges of democracy and development.

The Year Abroad experience not only enhances fluency and communicative proficiency, but also offers first-hand engagement with inter- and transculturality through cultural immersion. The flexibility of year abroad placement opportunities - including university study, volunteering and work placements in the private and public sector - enables students to get a deeper understanding of the interaction of local as well as global political, social and cultural contexts, and the evolving roles of government and civil society.

Graduates will emerge with adaptable, resilient, and resourceful skills, positioning them for careers in diplomacy, international relations, language teaching, translation, journalism, policy, human rights, and beyond. We invite students to take an active role in their learning, becoming critical and creative thinkers with a deep understanding of global complexities and the tools to make a meaningful impact.

Very expensive and the aldi is very far from the east campus. There is a Nisa which is way too expensive for students living by. My accommodation cost is expensive especially living with 12 people.

Very good there is the wellbeing team who can help people during their hard times. Plus there is people who can support thise who may have not found a house or not found any flatmates

I like the accommodations however I dont like the people I am living with. If only they did the application where you match up people by hobbies and interests like Warick University does.

Facilities

I like the timetable set for them, the module may need to think about not making them all presentations. The teacher is good.
