British sign language studies

Students studying for a BA in Deaf Studies and BSL in YSJU will gain an in-depth knowledge of the history, language and culture of deaf people in the UK. This will be combined with the opportunity to study several linguistics modules which will offer a broader context to what they will learn about BSL. Assessment will be through a combination of BSL videos, creative visual portfolios and student-led research projects, as well as more traditional assessment methods such as essays and exams. This will develop a range of transferrable skills which students could take on to a wide variety of future employment opportunities.
