Applicants will need the number of UCAS points specified in the details of each course - from: at least two A Levels at A2; BTEC Diploma or Extended Diploma; International Baccalaureate; Access to HE Diploma. Other combinations of qualifications and experience will also be considered, as will Level 3 qualifications not currently listed on the UCAS tariff. We would expect applicants to be working at Level 2 or above in English and Mathematics. Applicants intending to progress to primary school teaching should be aware that GCSE passes In English Language and Mathematics are required at Grade C/4 or above.

**This course provides a professional qualification for people working or wishing to work in a wide range of roles including schools, further and higher education and the voluntary sector. Prior students from the course have progressed their careers in SEND positions, social work, pupil referral units and specialist teachers in Autism. Most students complete their top-up to a full BA (Hons) and some have undertaken Masters Degrees and Doctorates.**

**About the course**

This two year full time course is designed to develop students as highly proficient, reflective and inspirational practitioners who contribute to the continuing development of inclusive and enabling practice. Students will study the impact of policy in practice including comparative study of international perspectives on inclusion and SEND. The course will prepare students for further study or employment as specialists or general educators or to undertake a wider range of roles in other sectors. Students will gain a high level of competence in addressing a wide range of specific learning needs and disability and the ability to progress ethical approaches to sustainability and a global perspective, through, for example, education outside of the classroom and volunteer opportunities.

The course introduces the four broad areas of SEND in year one with a keener focus in year two preparing students for practice as resourceful and proactive practitioners in the increasingly diverse diagnosed learning needs in both specialist or mainstream education settings. Students will attend seminars, lectures and workshops and will develop their digital competency through research, online learning and interaction.

The focus of the course is professional practice underpinned by theoretical base and competency in the assessment of complex problems and issues. Students will undertake a work placement of 15 hours per week. By combining working experience with theoretical knowledge through effective reflection, they will develop a critical approach to a new and rapidly changing knowledge base.

You will attend seminars, lectures and workshops and develop your digital competency through online learning and interaction.

**Assessment**

Each module is internally-assessed through individual or group assignments, which can be practical; making use of current educational thinking. Assignments are sector-focused, e.g. lifelong learning or compulsory education, to develop the relevant skills of analysis and evaluation.

**Bursaries**

We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. **Your career and progression**

After this course, you could continue on to a generic BA (Hons) Education degree or a specialist top-up degree. You could then progress to a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), SCITT, Teach First or School Direct course. Please note: for a primary school teaching post - you will need to have attained GCSEs grade C/4 or above in English Language, Mathematics and Science.
