A level
AAA or A*AB in three A levels including A in Biology and A in Chemistry Contextual Offer AAB in three A levels including grade A in Biology and Chemistry Alternate offers with additional study AAB in three A levels including grade A in Biology and Chemistry plus additional study - please see the course pages on our website.
Access to HE Diploma
A pass in the Access to HE Diploma (in Science or Science and Engineering), with at least 36 credits achieved at Distinction and 3 credits achieved at Merit or above. This must include at least 30 credits achieved at Distinction from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) units, of which at least 9 credits must be from Biology units and 9 credits must be from Chemistry units (excluding Biochemistry).
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
36 points overall and 6, 6, 6 or 7, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in Biology and 6 in Chemistry. We cannot accept Standard Level Chemistry for this course. If you are not studying Biology at Higher Level and you are taking it at Standard Level we may be able to consider you. In this case the typical offer is 36 points with 6, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in Chemistry plus 7 in Standard Level Biology. Contextual Offer 36 points overall and 6, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in Biology and 6 in Chemistry.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
DDD in the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (RQF). We are able to consider the above qualifications in Applied Science. It is important that you are covering enough of our essential and preferred optional units to make sure that you have sufficient Biology and Chemistry preparation for our course. Please contact us to discuss the suitability of your optional units before making an application. You must also have achieved a grade B or 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
Scottish Advanced Higher
AA in two Advanced Highers including Biology and Chemistry. We make offers based on Advanced Highers. You will typically be expected to have completed five Scottish Highers and your grades in these will be considered as part of your application. We prefer applicants who have achieved at least AAAAB in their Highers.

About this course
Study human health and the causes, prevention and treatment of disease, studied from the molecular details in the body to the symptoms and pathology of diseases.
This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be a part of the next generation of biomedical research scientists.
You’ll learn to apply biological sciences to explore human health and the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases such as cancer and Parkinson’s disease. You'll study a broad range of topics including genetics, genomics, human physiology, cancer, pathology, infection and immunity, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and pharmacology.
Benefit from multi-departmental teaching
Developed in collaboration with our Department for Health and Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, you'll benefit from specialist knowledge of human biology and pharmacology, providing you with a more in-depth understanding of biomedical sciences.
In the first two years, you will study a set of core units across all three departments, with the opportunity to choose optional units in the second and final year.
