Entry requirements


A level

A,A,B

Including Mathematics and a second science. Applicants following the modular Mathematics A Level must be studying A Level Physics or Further Mathematics as the second science (or must be studying at least one Mechanics module in their Mathematics A Level). Acceptable second sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Economics, Electronics, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology Human Biology, Statistics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Design & Technology - Product Design. For applicants from England: Where a science has been taken at A level (Chemistry, Biology or Physics), a pass in the Science practical of each subject will be required.

Extended Project

A

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be AAB or ABB plus A in the EPQ.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Engineering design

This programme brings together product design creativity with the technical knowledge and skills of engineering. Students develop as technically competent industrial designers, benefiting from the very latest in new product development techniques. The result is a modern engineering degree that will equip you with an excellent technical and creative grounding for a successful career in designing and developing new products. The degree is strongly project-based. You will work on many design projects of increasing complexity. In Year One, you will also study core engineering subjects. It gives you a broad and extended education at an advanced level, combining user-centred product design creativity with key aspects of engineering. You will graduate well-placed to play an important role in new product development, a top management priority in industry today.

Years One and Two of study are common with the Industrial Design BEng programme (3D52). Years Three and Four offer an enhanced learning experience with a dedicated MEng design and development project.

This programme is available with a Year in China. The Year in China allows undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), following XJTLU's BA China Studies degree classes. XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China please put the option code YC in the Further Choices section of your UCAS application form.
