Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) represent a range of innovative techniques and technologies used in the construction industry. These methods depart from traditional on-site construction by emphasising off-site manufacturing, pre-fabrication, and the use of advanced materials. MMC aims to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and quality by reducing construction timelines, minimising waste, and employing cutting-edge approaches such as modular construction, 3D printing, and digital design tools like Building Information Modelling (BIM).

This course will;
- develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to achieve high performance in the international construction environment

- develop enquiring minds, who have the abilities and confidence to work across different business functions and to lead, manage, respond to change, and tackle a range of complex construction situations

- provide the core skills required for a range of careers in construction, specifically those related to management and operations

- offer a balance between employability skills and the knowledge essential for those with entrepreneurial, employment or academic ambitions

- develop understanding of the major impact that new digital technologies have on the construction environment

Assessment methods

Candidates are assessed by a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments, presentations and work based projects.
You will be provided with details of the assignment requirements for each Unit. Students will be encouraged to engage with personal and professional development, gaining formative feedback on progress towards Unit outcomes, and developing knowledge and competence in the discipline.
Summative assessment is mainly through coursework. Students will evidence their progress through written academic essays and reports, or practical activities, which will vary according to each individual Unit assessment requirements. Each Unit will carry more than one assessment task in order to meet the learning outcomes and criteria for the Unit as a whole. There are no summative written exams for this course, however in some Units, your knowledge may be formatively assessed through in class tests.

This information is from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), for undergraduate students only.

You can use this to get an idea of who you might share a lecture with and how they progressed in this subject, here. It's also worth comparing typical A-level subjects and grades students achieved with the current course entry requirements; similarities or differences here could indicate how flexible (or not) a university might be.

Post-six month graduation stats:

This is from the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Survey, based on responses from graduates who studied the same subject area here.

It offers a snapshot of what grads went on to do six months later, what they were earning on average, and whether they felt their degree helped them obtain a 'graduate role'. We calculate a mean rating to indicate if this is high, medium or low compared to other universities.

The Longitudinal Educational Outcomes dataset combines HRMC earnings data with student records from the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

While there are lots of factors at play when it comes to your future earnings, use this as a rough timeline of what graduates in this subject area were earning on average one, three and five years later. Can you see a steady increase in salary, or did grads need some experience under their belt before seeing a nice bump up in their pay packet?
