Visual communication

This course has been designed to align your skills to current industry advancements in digital technology and practice. You will explore branding and corporate image, type and editorial, packaging design, contextual studies and practice enrichment across all mediums including print, digital, moving image and web. Delivery of skills and academic theory on the course reflects the needs required industry and is delivered by subject specialist tutors. This is a fast moving, competitive and industry led course that will prepare you well for a career in graphic communication. You will undertake a variety of industry linked projects and live briefs with employers giving you valuable experience of working as a practitioner within the industry. Work placements are vital to your experience and our links with local, national and international companies are excellent. We recognise the importance of developing a graduate who can fit into employment and we tailor the skills we provide accordingly. Graduates from this course have gone on to work as designers, creative directors, print publication designers, user experience designers and app designers. Academic progression is available through our one-year BA (Hons) Graphic Communication (Top-Up) degree.

Year Two: Academic Study Skills, Advanced Front End Content Management Systems Development, App Design, Branding and Marketing Design, Cross Platform Editorial Design, Design for Advertising, Design for Interaction, Digital Design in the Professional Context, Graphic Communication in the Professional Context, Professional Development, Work-Based Learning.

Assessment methods

You will produce a portfolio of work which is assessed and moderated as the course progresses. A range of practical and theoretical activities will determine your final grades. Practical and technical skills modules are delivered in our industry-standard digital resource centres and creative studios. You will be supported through lectures and seminars as well as our online learning environment.
