      Facilities

For student accommodation I probably would rate it a 3. It’s quite expensive compared to other places, and the more expensive ones are definitely way better. I live in the second most expensive and I really like my room and I share a bathroom with one person, whereas I’ve heard from friends that the cheaper (still around £150) aren’t as nice, being small and sharing a bathroom with lots of people. For the library it’s got a good selection, but if you can’t find a book you want, you can request it and they will get it in. So I’ll you’re in a bookshop and you don’t want to buy them, you can take photos and request them. Potentially the place is a little bit small in terms of seating but I’ve never not found somewhere. For art facilities it’s really good, it’s the reason I went here in the first place. I’ve mainly engaged with the woodwork, ceramics and bookbinding. They are approachable but it’s definitely best to show interest and get involved, so that the technicians know you. It can feel a awkward going to a workshop as a complete beginner but if you come up with a plan they are there to help

I enjoy the size of the campus - with a variety of food options and cafes, the campus has a nice community feel and it’s super close to other things in the city. The supports and general activities provided are great too, a lot is put into the union. The societies aren’t necessarily as big as they seem but I’ve still enjoyed to going to them

Okay so with most art course there aren’t many scheduled lectures or contact hours but I’ve felt quite ok with that so far. I’ve had one/two lectures a week, with tutorials or peer reviews mixed in once a week too. I think you have to be ready/prepared to be quite independent with your art, and make an effort to be in, do the research and use the workshops. Being so independent hasn’t been good all the time as I’ve felt a bit stuck at times and felt like I wasn’t reaching my potential am doing easy work, but I know there is always the option the email my tutors and talk with them. The tutors are really really nice, and I’ve enjoyed basically every lecture due to that. They are enthusiastic and the lectures are often about their interests or a catalog of artists and places to look at. It’s a good mix of writing and practical work. I’m not massively into writing, but thankfully the first essay(only 750 words) was writing about out own practice in the studio, which makes it easier to write as you’re already thinking and researching for it.
