The course has modules focusing on different aspects, with one per year focusing on how to improve employability. The others focus on the ecology side of the course and another is designed to make you think about how we got here through evolution and abiotic factors we have managed to adapt around. They also teach you statistical skills which are very useful for when we graduate and find a job in this career field. Lecturers are always available when you need them. Feedback is a little hit and miss, sometimes it will come back to you quickly and others will take weeks, although these are usually the more detailed versions of feedback which actually help you improve. Assessments are all different, with a mix of presentations, practical portfolios, in class submissions, exams, assignments and even making a website. Its generally good but the amount of deadlines do cause a lot of us stress.×

The neighbourhood is full of students and is only across the road from the uni, between both parts of the campus which is why all of us have chosen to live in the area. There's 2 bars, a nightclub, 2 shops, 2 libraries and a coffee shop which are all student run. Supermarkets are only 10 minutes walk away (Aldi, Asda, Farmfoods, Tescos) and the main town is a 20 minute walk or a short bus journey away so it's all well connected. Although the area is in between everywhere I don't think I'd choose to live here again as its a rough area. There has been 2 stabbings this year, bodies found in the river and more. There are also strange people that hang around on the roads and make you feel uncomfortable as you walk past by shouting at you (if you're a female). I'd move somewhere slightly further away where it is quieter and I'd feel safer.×

University wasn't much help apart from at one point I was unable to buy any food and so was given free food. My Student loan isn't enough to pay my rent even though I know others with parents in high paid jobs who get over double the amount I do. because of this I have to work as much as possible which affects the amount of time I can do my work, meaning I stretch my time until the deadline and my work probably isn't the best of my ability, if I do want to produce better work it will just mean I'll starve. My parents don't have the money to send to me even though student finance assumes they do.×
I feel like there is not enough contact hours with tutors or enough guidance to help us improve on our gradesReport
Didn’t seem any as I didn’t know where to go.Report

I live in Shelton, the area directly surrounding Staffordshire University's Stoke campus. This area is popular with students due to how close it is to the university. My house is a 3 minute walk from campus, and is near the 24 hour library so it's easy to get home if I have been studying late. There are regular buses into Hanley from a bus stop nearby, and Stoke on Trent railway station is just around the corner, along with a taxi rank. There are a lot of takeaways and corner shops nearby, making it convenient for food and drink. The main supermarkets are slightly further away (15-30 minute walk, depending on which store) but are still accessible. I am living in Shelton again next year as I am happy with the location and how easy it is to get to university.×
