Course
The course is very career focussed and intent on preparing us for post-university. Teaching is mostly good and conducive to learning. More modules focussed on my actual course would be nice, as there is too much reliance on sociology and politics modules to subsidise

Course
Studying my course at Lincoln can be challenging and frustrating, but can also be really rewarding. This is because Lincoln will have its first mathematics graduates this year, and the course is constantly being refined. It can be frustrating when something doesn't feel right about how the course works, but because it is so small, most people know the lecturers and staff personally and they are good at dealing with any issues. The course itself is mostly based on a model of 8 modules per year, with most having 3 hours of lectures per week and 1 hour of problem solving classes. I think this is pretty standard around the country for mathematics courses and it is definitely a good way of delivering the material, as it gives you enough introduction to topics that you are more confident when learning at home. Lecturers are so easy to get in contact with and I am forever emailing them with questions, which almost always I get incredibly helpful responses to, usually within the day I emailed. The best part about the course for me is that year 1 and year 2 both contain group projects which model what it will be like to do the final 3rd year project (dissertation equivalent), with the only difference being that for 3rd year the project is individual. This makes me feel relatively comfortable with the idea of my final project, rather than really anxious about it. The course content is a healthy mix of pure and applied maths. It would be better if there were more optional modules, though.

Accommodation
I live in the Monks Road area of Lincoln. It isn't the most popular student area of the city, but for me it offers a nice balance between being more affordable than some of the more popular student areas while still only being 20-25 walk from university, and 5-10 from the city centre. I will be moving to a different house for 3rd year but it is also on Monks Road, so I am happy with where I am. It's a bit far to get to supermarkets from here, so we have been ordering most of our groceries since we moved in.
